RBST - Rare Breed Survival Trust
The Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) is an important organisation in the UK that works to save and safeguard the future of rare and native livestock and equine breeds, and its Watchlist is the annual situation report for these breeds.
Gritstones as a rare breed
Derbyshire Gritstones joined the RBST Watchlist in 2017 and are classified as at risk which means that there are between 900-1,500 breeding females in the country.
Since then we have benefitted from a range of support and cross-promotion of the breed.

We have also worked to support the UK National Livestock Gene Bank with deposits from a number of Derbyshire Gritstone sheep

In our biased opinion the Derbyshire Gritstone is the best breed on this list - so if you would be interested in buying Derbyshire Gritstone sheep to start your own flock then why not attend our annual breed sale in October and our annual in-lamb ewe sale in February both held at Clitheroe Auction Mart.
